12 July - 21 July

Cruel jester by day, loving father by night… Rigoletto is well aware of the dangers his daughter Gilda faces in the court of the depraved Duke of Mantua. His efforts to keep her hidden away are in vain: the unscrupulous Duke finds Gilda and seduces her. To avenge his daughter, the jester hires an assassin, but a curse upsets his deadly plan. Inspired by Victor Hugo’s play Le roi s’amuse, this fastpaced opera delivers a succession of famous arias and choruses. Under the spotlight, stars of the opera stage enthusiastically portray Verdi’s emblematic characters.

Italian baritone, Giulio Boschetti, is a highly experienced Verdi singer, having sung several leading baritone roles in Don Carlos, La Traviata, Nabucco and Un Ballo in maschera in many a major opera house in Europe.

As far as the other two leading roles are concerned, Salon Music was fortunate to tap into the resources of a production of Rigoletto, recently staged at Opera in the Crypt in Vienna. The American soprano, Leah Manning, in the role of Gilda and the Spanish tenor, Sergio Tallo-Torres, as the Duke of Mantua.

Ms. Manning is a highly experienced young coloratura soprano, with at least 20 or more, roles in her repertoire, including Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Frasquita (Carmen), Susanna (Marriage of Figaro), Papagena (Magic Flute) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) among others.

Spanish tenor, Sergio Tallo Torres is a heroic young tenor, who excels in the role of the rather nasty philandering Duke of Mantua.

The South African mezzo, Teresa de Wit and SA bass, Thomas Mohlamme need no introduction to our patrons. Both these singers have featured in many an op-eratic role, as well as concerts, at Brooklyn Theatre.

The smaller roles will all be sung by local singers.

In contrast to the previous Salon Music production of Rigoletto at Brooklyn Theatre, this will be a full scale version, without cuts. This time the opera will be staged with the required male chorus.
